Our dogs mean the world to us. We love them, we care for them and in return, we get total devotion, loyalty, and enough licks to last a lifetime (and maybe a friendly nip or two thrown in). But like any other family member, dogs can get sick too. In fact, there are some diseases and conditions that are common to many dogs.  Here are 10 of the most common dog health problems our four-legged friends can face.

1. Ear Infections

A common health problem among dogs, ear infections can be caused by a variety of factors. Bacteria and yeast are the most common, but allergies, trapped water, ear mites, and hair growth can also be among the potential causes. Dogs with ear infections exhibit the following symptoms:

  • Head shaking or tilting
  • Ear odor
  • Scratching
  • Loss of balance
  • Unusual movement of the eyes
  • Redness
  • Swelling of the ear
  • Brown, yellow or bloody discharge
  • Loss of hearing
