As the name implies, toy dogs are small in size. They’re calm, easily controllable and smart. These dogs have often been linked to royalty and aristocracy, and seem to serve primarily for recreational purposes as cuddly and lovable lapdogs.

Still, it’s worth noting that some toy dogs don’t get along well with small kids. In addition, they’re a delicate bunch, which might be a cause of worry for owners with children. Toy dogs generally aren’t all that interested in vigorous exercise and may require a significant amount of motivation before they’ll commit to any extensive physical activity.

But if you’re ok with that, these dogs are considered excellent pets for novice owners.
