Rad dogs and dudes will be hitting the waves at the World Dog Surfing Championship in Pacifica. Dogs can ride solo or with a human for a chance to bring home the gold. If surfing isn’t his thing (or he still needs to take a few dog surfing lessons), Fido can try his paw at the Dog Disc or Ball-Fetch-in-Water Competitions. He can also enter the costume contest or browse the sponsor tents at Surf Dog Village. Stop by the wellness fair for a pup checkup, ask the vet questions or work out those knots at Massage & Fitness by Happy Hounds Massage. Then, visit the mobile adoption center to meet new friends and maybe a new family member. After the event, stay for Yappy Hour at Pedro Point Brewing.

The World Dog Surfing Championship will be held on August 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, CA. Admission is free but there is a $25 entry fee per heat category for canines surfing solo. There is also an entry fee for dogs participating in other events. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA and Rocket Dog Rescue.

What better place for a dog party than Dog Mountain, one of our favorite dog parks in the country? The 150-acre farm and playscape for dogs hosts its annual Dog Mountain Summer Dog Party in August. Four-legged attendees are invited to run and play off leash and swim in the pond. There will be live music, delicious fare from the Vermont Food Truck Company, and a bounce house and lawn games for families. Pups can test their skills on the agility course and enter dog contests. You can have family or pet portraits made while you’re there, and don’t leave without visiting The Chapel. Take a moment to reflect and post messages for furry family members who have crossed the rainbow bridge.

Dog Mountain Summer Dog Party will be held on August 3 from noon to 4 p.m. at Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, VT. Admission is free but donations are encouraged.

Wine & Woofs: Canines Uncorked

Portland, OR

“This is just the first stop of the day.”

Wine & Woofs: Canines Uncorked will toast its 9th year in 2019 with 15 North Willamette Valley wineries joining in the fun and welcoming dogs as guests of honor. Purchase a “License to Taste” passport and sip on samples from each participating winery. Pet-friendly activities include paw print painting, talks on dog travel and holistic remedies, and complimentary nail trims. Mingle with other dogs, browse the vendor displays and let Fido take a dip in a doggie pool. You won’t have time to visit all 15 locations on the day of the event, but not to worry; you’ll receive two tasting cards, each good for one tasting at a participating winery at a later date.

Wine & Woofs: Canines Uncorked will be held on August 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating North Willamette Valley wineries. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 on the day of the event for you and your dog. Designated drivers do not need to purchase tickets.

Four-legged tomatoes are invited to attend the 16th annual Tomato Art Fest in East Nashville’s Five Points neighborhood. Dress your pup as a tomato, bottle of ketchup or a Bloody Mary and bring her to this unique homage to the veg… er, fruit. Food vendors and local artists line the streets during the event, and a free concert will kick things off on Friday evening. Find a spot to watch the “Push Pull & Wear Parade” on Saturday morning followed by the Faux Paw Fashion Show at 10:30 a.m. All pets in tomato-inspired outfits are invited to participate, and proceeds will benefit East C.A.N. Live music will continue throughout the day along with other fun activities like bobbing for tomatoes and the Beautiful Tomato Pageant. There are large crowds and the pavement can be hot, so use caution. Pet strollers, wagons and carriers are common, and water bowls and wading pools are available to keep canines cool.

Tomato Art Fest will be held on August 9 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and August 10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free but there is a $10 registration fee for the Faux Paw Fashion Show.

Pug Camp

Lakewood, PA

“It’s been an hour since breakfast. Can I swim now?”

Pack your sleeping bag, flashlight and doggles. It’s time for Pug Camp! Short snouts and curlicue tails will come together to participate in activities like early morning Doga, Pug movie night, Pug Reiki sessions, Pug Olympics and more. Of course, the Pugs don’t discriminate. All well-behaved dogs and their owners are welcome at this three-day event. Guests can stay in bunks or private rooms with their pups and spend the weekend participating in activities hosted by Pug rescue organizations. Between meals and activities are free periods when your pooch can take a refreshing swim in the lake. There’s also a silent auction, so you’ll have a chance to take home some souvenirs.

Pug Camp will be held from August 16 to 18 at Camp Westmont in Lakewood, PA. Registration fees range from $80 for a day-tripper to $450 for a private room with double occupancy. Lodging and meals are included. Individual activities cost extra and proceeds will benefit the participating rescues.

Pumpkinstock

Pickens, SC

Peace, love, and pooches.

Dress Fido in his grooviest threads and crank up the VW bus. Dogs are invited to join their owners for three days of camping, live music and river fun at Pumpkinstock, presented by Bonfire Music Festival. Come for a day or stay for all three. You and your pup can jam to a long list of live bands and gather around the campfire to roast hot dogs and tell stories. Pets can also socialize with other four-legged campers in the fenced dog park.

Pumpkinstock will be held from August 16 to 18 at Bonfire Music Campground in Pumpkintown, SC. Tickets are $45-$75 with an additional $10 fee for up to four pets. The pet fee will benefit the Pickens County Humane Society.

Corgi Walk in the Pearl

Portland, OR

Waddle around Portland.

Take those short Corgi legs on a walk around Portland’s Pearl District at Corgi Walk in the Pearl. Before the stroll begins, pups and people can mingle in a grassy area where the Oregon Humane Society and Corgi Rescue will have informational booths. Grab a cup of coffee and a treat from Pearl Bakery, who will be donating 20% of their proceeds that day to the event, before starting the leisurely 1.2-mile trek through town. A hydration station for dogs is set up halfway along the course, and those on two legs will receive a bottle of water. Dogs will also be given a spiffy scarf to wear on their walk.

Corgi Walk in the Pearl will be held on August 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the corner of NW Park and Everett in Portland, OR. Tickets are $25 for the first Corgi and $15 for each additional Corgi (or his furry siblings). Proceeds benefit the Oregon Humane Society and Corgi Rescue.
