He was born different and grew up fearing humans, but now he’s loved around the world

It’s been a little while since we first found out about Quasimodo the dog, so we thought we’d catch you up on his status.

This very special pup is one of only 15 dogs of his kind in the world… but his Mom would probably say there’s nobody quite like him. This adorable fur-baby was born with a rare disorder called short spine syndrome. As his Mom says, “He’s a true German Shepherd… just shorter.”

He was found as a stray dog in Kentucky. Quasi was scared of humans and very shy. But after he got to know a loving human named Rachel, his personality came out.

These days he’s enjoying life running in the snow, playing with his friends, and chasing girl dogs (apparently, he’s quite the ladies’ man!). His human founded Secondhand Hounds, a non-profit that saves thousands of animals a year, and that’s where Quasimodo gets all the care and attention he needs.

He has to do some things differently from other dogs, like eating his food without bending down, but he’s now a happy, carefree pup who has found fans all over the world…. including us!

Week After Week, He Waited for Someone to Save Him. When He Finds Out Someone Wants Him? Just Watch.

A shelter dog can only do so much to give himself a second chance at finding a forever home. He can wait for weeks, months even, for a family to come by and decide that he’s the one they want. But when he’s in a high-kill shelter? His time, and opportunities, are limited.

Benny was just such a dog. He was shy, and maybe that kept him from getting adopted. Week after week, he would wait with no success. And he was close to learning all about what a high-kill shelter does when nobody wants you. But then, the right family did appear, and they did pick Benny to come be a part of their home.

And all it takes is that first tail wag to see just how much it meant to Benny. This sweet, shy dog can barely contain his joy and excitement at finding a forever home. And we can barely contain our tears of happiness watching him leave the shelter on his way to a happier life. Every shelter dog deserves this.

She Smacks the Big Husky With Her Toy. The Dog’s Reaction? Precious.

A Siberian Husky is a big, active dog who isn’t afraid to let his voice be heard. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think it’s not the safest animal to have around a small child. But this dog and baby will convince you that huskies can be as gentle and playful with tiny humans as any creature.

The baby in the video is playing with her toy, and she decides to let her big friend in on the game. She smacks the toy over his head a few times, and he eventually takes it from her and chews on it.

This HERO Came Home from the War with PTSD. Look Who Helped Her Feel Human Again.

They say war changes you. No one can relate to this better than Linda, a soldier who saw the horrors of war first-hand when she was on a tour of duty in Iraq. Linda returned home with PTSD, suffering from problems sleeping, panic attacks, and as she puts it, “a loss of yourself.”

When therapy didn’t work, Linda turned to Tender Loving Canines, who paired her with a service dog named Willow. It was the start of a new day for this war hero. They fell in love, and more than that, Willow helped Linda sleep, feel safe, be more comfortable in public, and socialize. Willow forced Linda to talk to people, to plug herself back into the world around her. She helped her human feel happiness again.

Today, Linda is a psychiatric nurse practitioner; she and willow help other vets dealing with PTSD. In our book, they’re both heroes.
