Adopting a pet is one of the noblest things humans can do for another living creature. You’re not just getting a pre-trained, pre-vaccinated, and home-ready companion, you are also giving them another chance at a happy life by not abandoning them in the middle of nowhere, as a lot of people do.

This is most especially true in the case of senior dogs. They’ve been around for some time so you’ll know a lot more about them compared to young pups. They also tend to require less training and have low stress levels. Sure, there will be medical bills, but those come with the territory of owning a pet no matter what stage of life. The important thing here is you will be gaining a chill and loyal companion for the rest of its life, regardless of how long that is.

If you are in New Orleans and looking to adopt a fur buddy, you might want to consider these sweet senior dogs in NOLA’s Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO):

1. CeCe (Senior in Foster)

CeCe is a medium-sized female terrier. She is house trained, spayed, and up-to-date with her shots. CeCe is the most loving and appreciative girl who has had a hard life and craves human affection. She just lights up when people pet her. She has experienced being a nanny dog for a 6-year old boy in her foster home. She does have some arthritis, but that doesn’t stop her from being patient and loving. CeCe is very intelligent and a quick learner. She also has become a step-mommy to an energetic little puppy that runs the household. Note: She prefers a home with no cats.

2. Chewie (Senior in Foster)

Chewie is a chihuahua and terrier mix. She is house trained, spayed, and vaccinated. Chewie is a sweetheart who loves a good walk around the neighborhood and has a lot of pep left in her step despite her advanced age. She was rescued along with her 5 pups. The good people at ARNO will tell you that Chewie is a pretty great mom and has raised good puppies. She is very friendly and loves meeting new dogs and people. Chewie has a lot of love to give, and is ready to spend lots of time relaxing and watching Hallmark holiday movies with you.

3. Eli (Senior)

He has been at ARNO for about 8 years now. All he wants is an adult-only home and a master who is experienced, patient, and willing to help build up his confidence. Note: He gets really anxious around cats and kids.

4. Mojo (Senior in Foster)

He was rescued along with his mom (Chewie) and four other siblings. He can be adopted with another pup or just by my lonesome. Eli doesn’t mind being silly from time to time. He loves to do the ‘downward dog’ yoga pose and prance around in adorable sweaters. He loves leisure walks around the neighborhood, hanging out with other dogs, and cuddling in bed. Mojo is easygoing, friendly with people and dogs, and, like his name suggests, just a really cool dog.

If you are looking for a friendly, lowkey, and fun pup to add to your home, then Pudgy is your guy.

7. Roscoe (and Chica)

roscoe dog for adoption

Roscoe is a 12-year old chihuahua + rat terrier mix with a corgi butt. He is very close with her sister, Chica. In fact, the siblings are so inseparable that you need to adopt them together. Roscoe is the kind of dog that will welcome you at the door every time you come home. He loves to play fetch and belly rubs. He also loves to go on walks with his sister. They both love to sit outside coffee shops and quiet bars. Sometimes, Chica gets tired and gets to ride in a super cool stroller, but Roscoe will keep walking while you push his sister. If you want to be adored, cuddled, followed, and worshiped by two cute-as-buttons pups, then these siblings are the pair for you. Note: they prefer a home without kids because children make them anxious.

Walks aren’t really his thing, but he is perfect for eating snacks while watching Netflix. Zeke is very low maintenance and has the most gentle disposition. He is not into crowds, loud noises, and other animals. He needs a nice yard with some shade to chill when it’s nice out, a spot on the sofa to watch my shows, and a few walks a week to get some sniffs in. If you’re a couch potato and need a best friend who thinks the world of you, then Zeke is the right choice. Note: Prefers a home without other dogs and cats.
