A touching video captured the moment a dog returned to her owner after being separated by increasing violence in Bucha, Ukraine, close to the nation’s capital Kyiv. When Nessie, the husky, recognizes a familiar face, she starts sprinting faster down the street.

The dog can’t hold back her excitement as she squeals with delight, jumps and licks at the owner, and lets her tail wag erratically.

The puppy then flees from him while wailing and making a valiant effort to explain everything to her owner. Throughout the encounter, the man grinned broadly and continued to pet the dog until it lost all control of its joy and began to circle about once more.

In Bucha, the Kastus Kalinouski Battalion, a contingent of Belarusian soldiers serving as volunteers in Ukraine, was engaged in combat with Russian forces. Ukraine eventually won the battle to retake the town after a grueling month-long conflict.

The soldiers discovered Nessie alone in the streets, amidst the devastation, and they were unable to abandon her. It appeared that during Russian forces’ attacks a few weeks ago, the animal lost contact with her owner. The dog was taken by the military, who kept her secure until they could locate her owner.

On the group’s Facebook page, they released a video of their reunion with the caption: “A little positive in these trying times. When Bucha was released, we discovered the abandoned dog named Nessie. But because of our friends, we were able to track down her owners, and she was given back to them today.

“They concluded their statement by noting that they not only stand up for human lives but also for those of all animals. Even if they are in a happy moment, it is hard to picture what they went through, with the owners terrified for their beloved pet and the dog alone to go through what may have been the most traumatic experiences of her life.

The video concludes with a video chat with the owner’s wife, who appears ecstatic to see the puppy healthy and shakes hands with a battalion member who assisted in their reunion.

We are overjoyed for Nessie and her owners that they were able to enjoy a nice moment amidst the conflict. We pray that they are able to escape together, live out the rest of their life to the fullest, and create many more wonderful memories.
