It is difficult to do anything in total darkness, much less capture and save a fearful dog. Suzette Hall, the company’s founder, prefers to perform her rescues in the morning.

But when Hall urgently received word of a crying and very ill puppy that had been abandoned, she instantly loaded up her car with treats and a humane dog trap.

“I went out at midnight,” Hall said. “She was out in the middle of nowhere, on a one-lane road. I knew I had to get her.” Hall struggled to locate the dog in the darkness. But she eventually found the pup, thanks to a unique reflection.

“I saw her by her eyes,” Hall said. “We named her Moonie because it was the moonlight that helped me notice her.”

Moonie had stunning eyes, but the rest of her body was in terrible shape. “She was skin and bones wearing an old, dirty jacket,” according to Hall. Because Moonie was so thin, Hall was confident she had captured a coyote.

“She had mange and scabies, and everything,” Hall said. “When I got her that night, she smelled so bad.”

Hall, though, remained by Moonie’s side the entire time, despite her state. Until the Veterinarian’s office opened in the morning, the two shared a bed in the car. After seeing the vet, Moonie started receiving strict treatment for her several diseases, which called for six weeks of isolation.

Moonie entered foster care after completing her treatment. But because of her endearing character, her time as a “foster pup” was short-lived.

“She went to two different foster homes,” Hall said. “They were going to put her up for adoption during her second foster stay, but her foster mom said, ‘No, I can’t part with this gal. We can’t let her go.’”According to Hall, Moonie has “the most amazing life now.”

She has not only been thriving in her new home by the beach and has undergone a beautiful physical makeover, but she is also taking advantage of the affection and attention that come with being the only child in her new family.

“She looks like the most beautiful dog you’ve ever seen in your life now,” Hall said. “She deserves the world. And she deserves to have her story told.”
