JJ, a 16-year-old Retriever-Husky mix, ended up at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter in Valley View, Ohio, after he was found as a stray in February.

In addition to his old age, the greying 50-pound dog also had a head tilt, which was diagnosed by the vet as chronic ear infections. They were immediately treated, and he is now doing much better.

After seeing how much energy JJ still has, you would never think that he was 16 years old. He has quickly become a shelter favorite and enjoys hanging out with the other dogs at the shelter during playtime. He also loves to go for long walks, and of course getting snacks!

JJ likes other dogs, but would do best in a home without cats. Although the shelter staff loves JJ, they are hoping to find him a home where he can spend his retirement years, so that he doesn’t have to live them out in a shelter.

“Now, I may not be a young whippersnapper but I’m no old fogey either,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “If you want an easygoing companion that still has plenty of personality, I’m your man!”

If you’re interested in meeting JJ or adding him to your family, please contact the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter at 216-525-7877, and learn more about JJ and other dogs in the animal shelter here.
