National Mill Dog Rescue took in a scared little Chihuahua with big, floppy ears from a puppy mill where she spent three-and-a-half years of her life giving birth to litter after litter. It was her only purpose in life, and she’d never felt the warm touch of a human. She was scared and didn’t know what was going on, and she pressed herself into the corner of her kennel.

So a volunteer decided to spend some time with her and let her know everything was going to be okay. Harleigh was so terrified that it was heartbreaking, but the comforting would be a gamechanger. She dug her claws into him as a new chapter in life began.

When another puppy mill survivor, Harley, joined them, it helped even more. They all embraced one another, and significant progress was being made! The volunteer then sat to see if Harleigh would come over to him. It’d take some time and patience, but the sweet girl showed that she wanted to be near him and approached!

All of this happened within just the first hour. When the volunteer left, Harleigh became scared once again. They knew it’d take some time to change her mentality for good, and all the hard work would be worth it in the end. But what a precious beginning! 🙂
