Some dogs are escape artists and they somehow manage to break free from their owner’s home or yard. Lila is one of those dogs who had been missing for several days, and her owners feared the worst. Luckily the Havertown, Pennsylvania pooch was spotted down an embankment. However, the embankment happened to be a 20-foot drop into Darby Creek.

The Havertown Police Department was summoned along with crew members of the Manoa Fire Company. Using a rope system along with a ladder, they were able to gain access to the scared pup and pull her back up to safety. A water team member put on personal protective equipment and pulled the dog out.

Lila’s owners were ecstatic to have their furbaby back in their arms, although the little one is understandably exhausted from her ordeal. The owners thanked everyone involved for getting involved or their little pup could have been in great peril. I Love My Dog reminds our readers to always keep a close eye on their dogs and make sure their microchip and collar tags are up to date.

A few tips to prevent your dog from escaping the yard include installing latches on all gates to the property, having a secure fence around the perimeter, and ensuring there are no “holes” or “open areas” where a dog can easily slip through. Never leave dogs alone outside for long periods where they are left unsupervised.
