Most people view their dogs as equal family members, taking care of them, making sure they’re always happy, and worrying uncontrollably when they’re ill or in trouble.

But caring for a furry pet also entails a lot of duties, particularly in the summer. For example, heatstroke is a very hazardous ailment, but many pet owners still neglect to give their animals a pleasant environment.

The RSPCA, or Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is an organization that works to promote animal welfare in England and Wales. Recently, they used their official TikTok account to demonstrate the suffering that dogs endure when confined inside a heated automobile.

“If you spot a dog in distress inside a hot car, call 999 immediately,” said the RSPCA after posting a video of what happens to pets who are abandoned inside hot automobiles to their official TikTok account. It received more than 75K likes and a ton of comments thanking the officer for raising awareness of such a tragic issue.

The officer stated at the beginning of the film that he would demonstrate how dangerous it is to be locked inside a car in hot weather. A little bit over 23°C (or 73°F) was the temperature inside the automobile at the start of the experiment, and the man announced that he would be providing updates every few minutes.

On the fifth minute, the man returned with an update and explained that while he had attempted to record a three-minute video, the camera had had some issues due to it being too hot.

The temperature had risen to above 95°F since the beginning of the video, and the folks involved had to shift it in order for it to function once again.

At ten minutes, the officer provided the following update. He claimed that his breathing had become harder and that he had begun to feel his heartbeat.

The man reported that the temperature climbed much higher and finally topped out at 110°F. The car later started to feel like an oven when the timer crossed 15 minutes, and the RSPCA inspector was bright red and drenched in sweat.

The temperature rose over 122°F when the 17-minute mark came around.

The officer continued by saying that this brief period of time isn’t even as long as some people’s shopping trips, so he hopes that this has opened pet owners’ eyes who previously believed that their dogs could handle this kind of atmosphere.

When Bored Panda contacted the RSPCA, Suzanne Norbury consented to respond to a few queries:

The woman responded when we asked what a bystander should do if they observe a dog locked in a hot car: “When reporting situations relating to individual dogs being left in hot cars, we always recommend people to ring 999 and ask for the police, as they can frequently visit much more quickly than ourselves. Police officers also have the authority to enter a car to rescue an animal from harm.

The woman continued, “Many people’s instinct will be to break into the car to release the dog if the situation becomes serious for the dog and the cops are too far away or unable to attend. When they observe a puppy in suffering in a hot automobile, animal lovers are only natural to act.

“In case they need to later explain their conduct, we urge individuals to tell the police what they intend to do and why, as well as to capture pictures or video of the dog and the names and contact information of any witnesses to the incident.”

If there are any official statistics on dog deaths in hot automobiles, Suzanne responded: “I’m sorry, but we don’t have any. BP also inquired if there were any figures on human deaths in hot cars. Because individuals call the police in the majority of cases involving dogs in hot automobiles, charities like ours only learn about a small fraction of these incidents, but each year we do learn of the tragic deaths of dogs as a result.
