Summertime is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine with your furry friend. But it’s important to keep your pup safe and comfortable in hot weather. Here are some essential tips for summertime fun with Fido:

Provide Plenty of Shade and Water

When spending time outdoors, make sure that your pup has access to plenty of shade and water. If you’re going on a long hike or spending the day at the beach, bring along a collapsible shade tent or umbrella so that your pup can take a break from the sun. Also, bring along plenty of water for both you and your pup. It’s important to stay hydrated when it’s hot outside!

Avoid Hot Surfaces

On hot days, the ground can become extremely hot. To prevent burns on your pup’s paws, avoid walking on asphalt or concrete during peak hours (10am-4pm). Instead, opt for grassy areas or trails where the ground will be cooler. If you must walk on pavement during peak hours, try carrying your pup or using booties to protect their feet from burns.

Watch Out For Heatstroke

Heatstroke is a serious condition that can occur when dogs overheat in hot weather. Signs of heatstroke include excessive panting, drooling, weakness, confusion, vomiting and collapse. If you think your pup is suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cool area immediately and contact your vet right away.

Be Careful With Exercise

Exercise is important for keeping pups healthy but it’s important not to overdo it in hot weather. Stick to early morning or evening walks when it’s cooler outside and take frequent breaks if you notice that your pup is getting too warm. Also be aware of signs of fatigue such as excessive panting or slowing down; these are indicators that it may be time for a break!

Have Fun Indoors

If it’s too hot outside for outdoor activities with Fido, there are still plenty of ways to have fun indoors! Try playing fetch inside with soft toys or teaching new tricks like “sit” or “stay”. You can also set up an obstacle course in the living room using furniture and pillows as obstacles – this will keep both you and Fido entertained for hours!

Keep Cool Treats On Hand

One way to keep your pup cool during summer months is by giving them frozen treats like ice cubes or frozen fruit slices (just make sure they don’t contain any ingredients that could be toxic to dogs!). You can also make homemade frozen treats like peanut butter banana popsicles – just blend together 1 banana, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and ½ cup of plain yogurt until smooth then pour into popsicle molds and freeze overnight!

Give Your Pup A Summer Haircut

Trimming down Fido’s fur can help keep them cool during summer months – just make sure not to cut too close! Longer fur helps insulate against extreme temperatures so aim for trimming down rather than shaving off all fur completely. This will help keep them comfortable while still providing protection from sunburns and overheating.

Monitor Flea & Tick Prevention

Fleas & ticks thrive in warm weather so it’s important to monitor flea & tick prevention year-round but especially during summer months when these pests are most active! Talk to your vet about what type of flea & tick prevention would work best for Fido based on their lifestyle & activity level – this will help ensure they stay safe & healthy all summer long!
