Zephyr almost had a tragic ending, but a good woman spared him. He now gives hugs and kisses to his adoptive mother each day in gratitude.

Last year, Irene spotted a man while she was taking a stroll in a nearby park and he was heading toward the river. She approached the man since it looked like he had something in his hands, but she wasn’t expecting what she saw when she got closer.

“He had a newborn kitten in his hands, and I realized I needed to act quickly,” Irene told The Dodo. “I managed to push the man seconds before he would’ve thrown a kitty into the river.”

Irene had no idea she would end up saving a kitten that day, but it did. The little cat was shivering, but it was still alive. Irene named the cat Zephyr, and he has been licking her face as much as he can to express his thanks.

“He didn’t want to let go of me,” Irene stated. “He does it almost every day and either rubs against my face or starts to lick it up.”

Zephyr was a kitten when Irene adopted him, and she brought him home to meet her older cat. They remain inseparable even a year later.

“The old cat treats the kitten-like his own son,” Irene said. “They both are so adorable, hugging and licking each other.” The formerly lost stray now has a second chance at life, and he is making the most of it.

“[Zephyr] constantly needs attention, loves when I chase him, or when he chases the [senior] cat,” Irene added. “His favorite game is when I throw a toy mouse and he brings it back to me. He can run for the mouse all evening and not get tired.”

This unique connection was destined to exist despite the circumstances. “He changed my life,” Irene added. “He’s my personal little sunshine with his endless energy. It’s like having a little child … it teaches you a lot.”
