Hudson and Lawrence stayed on the streets for several months.

The two must have been on their own for months by the time we came upon Hudson and Lawrence in the middle of a busy road. The two leaned only on one another as they stood back to back in the middle of the roadway, especially after Hudson amputated one of his hind legs. Loreta had to take the initiative in leading this rescue because the two were terrified, especially of men.

Eldad and Loreta found the ideal location to securely confine the two wary dogs: a fenced front yard, with assistance from a nice neighbor. Eldad returned to the car to fetch more groceries while Loreta started gaining the trust of the fearful puppies by feeding them cheeseburgers paid for by donations from our wonderful friends. The two took their sweet time making their way into the front yard, but Eldad was prepared and shut the gate after them.

Hudson and Lawrence were still frightened despite being trapped; in fact, the opposite was true. When the crew approached, the two hissed and snapped, and Hudson almost ripped Loreta’s hand off in place of the cheeseburger! Lawrence was the first to request assistance after coming to a complete stop.

He peacefully entered a travel cage after realizing they weren’t in danger and let Loreta tie a lucky leash around his neck. Hudson was the exact opposite, but given his terrible injury, who can blame him? The team eventually succeeded in diverting him long enough for him to be placed in the carrier, and after that, it was off to CARES!

Lawrence immediately relaxed once he arrived at the veterinary clinic. As soon as he emerged from the box, his tail was wagging despite his matting and starvation. He made small talk with every member of the staff before taking his first peaceful bath in a long time. Once more, Hudson was very different. He had already recovered from the injury that had taken his leg, but there was still damaged tissue and bone fragments that required surgery to be repaired.

It was time for a wash and a shave, which, unlike Lawrence, Hudson did not appreciate, in order to give him the best chance of recovering. After cleaning himself up and receiving some anesthesia, he underwent surgery the following day to have the remaining piece of his leg removed and the pain it had been causing him removed.

Hudson still had a long way to go before he was fully recovered; he had to relearn how to walk and how to trust people. The day was saved by our friends from Foxy and the Hounds! In order for Hudson and Lawrence to keep together and for Hudson to have his dependable companion to protect his back while he recovered, they found excellent foster homes for both of them. The two puppies eventually became the contented, unbreakable unit they were always meant to be! accompanied by two tail wags!
