Last week, Kaye Fiorello was traveling along a highway in Tennessee on a sweltering day when she noticed a highway patrol officer parked just off the road. She didn’t give it much thought at the moment, but it ended up being a very wise observation.

Fiorello saw something more as she carried on her journey, but this time it did cause her to pause. The Dodo was informed by Fiorello that “this small dog’s head came up on the side of the road about a mile up the road.” She appeared to have been there for a while.

The stranded dog needed assistance, and Fiorello knew just where to find it. Fiorello remembered the police she’d seen, so she reversed her car and started traveling in the opposite direction. Unaware that her words would forever alter both of their lives, she drove up next to the officer and informed him about the dog.

He inquired as to her location before pursuing her, according to Fiorello. I pointed out the spot as I followed him. When they got there, they saw that the dog appeared to be both injured and afraid. She initially had her doubts about the officer’s approach, but he made an effort to gain her confidence by bringing her food and water. He didn’t stop there, though.

After contacting animal control for assistance, he sat by the dog’s side while holding an umbrella to protect her from the scorching sun. Fiorello was moved to tears as he witnessed his devotion to the puppy.

“He told me, ‘I’m going to sit right here until she trusts me,’” Fiorrello said, adding that the dog seemed to sense the trooper’s, kind heart. “She seemed to breathe a happy dog sigh. And those doe eyes — the difference was night and day. They connected. It was powerful. I was crying some happy tears for that girl.”

And it turned out that this bond would last a long time.

Before assistance arrived, Fiorello had to continue on her trip, but she later discovered that the dog had been successfully rescued and transported to the clinic for treatment. She had a broken hip, but she wouldn’t have to deal with it by herself.

For that portion as well, the officer would be by her side.

The dog eventually found a home a week after being discovered injured and frightened by herself on the side of the road. She would remain in the officer’s custody forever.

Fiorello said, “I adopted her today.” It will be a few, possibly two weeks before Princess returns home from the veterinarian.

Princess’s happy ending couldn’t have been more ideal for Fiorello, whose impulse to get treatment for the hurt puppy resulted in the pup’s entire world turning for the better. It seems as though it were meant to be, she said.
