Reese was discovered on the sidewalk. Nobody knew how the unfortunate baby managed to stay alive. She was so terribly malnourished that every bone in her fragile body was visible. Who could have allowed this to occur? Why would someone harm her like this?

Animal Control was contacted, and they hoped to save her life by contacting Jersey Pits, a nearby rescue. The puppy was pictured in their car’s back seat in a picture that they sent over. Every person who saw the picture sobbed and cried. They had never witnessed abuse and neglect as severe as this.

She was glad to give tons of kisses in gratitude to her new human pals, even when she was too feeble to lift her head up. She was an extremely loving dog, to put it mildly. No creature should endure pain, but it is especially cruel to starve a dog like Reese who is obviously so loving.

The medical staff took the appropriate actions to improve Reese’s condition. She required extensive attention. She was able to stand on her own for a very little period of time one week into her hospital stay. Sure, it was a modest accomplishment, but it was something!

A few weeks later, Reese was taking steps on her own. She was wagging her tail and even “sitting” on command. After a month-long hospital stay, she was discharged to go to her medical foster home.

Reese’s foster mother, Ryn, claimed that while in the car, she was quite hesitant, but as soon as she arrived at her foster home and realized that she was safe, she “came alive,” picking up toys and playing joyfully with them. Reese was in a home for the first time where she was appreciated and wanted.

Then, in an instant, Reese changed into a “genuine dog,” jumping on the couch to demand attention and activity. She really began to develop once she was able to walk without pain. She came to understand that there was a vast outside world just waiting for her to explore.

Ryn explains in the video that every morning they would wake up and she would have to loosen Reese’s collar. It was such an amazing accomplishment because that meant Reese was gaining weight and getting healthier!

Reese continues to get better and gain weight. She’s still living with Ryn as she heals. Soon she will be available for adoption and everyone who meets her is confident she will make a wonderful addition to any family.

We are so relieved Reese was found in time and brought back to life. Thank you to all the animal heroes who didn’t give up! Please take the time to see Reese’s complete story beneath the article. She is so inspiring!
