In addition to wearing your dog in a costume for Halloween, viewing scary movies is one of the best activities. You may dig your fangs into one of these five Halloween movies with scene-stealing canine co-stars this season. There are appropriate trigger warnings given because some are not for the weak of the heart.

See our list below.

Cujo (1983)

Dog: Cujo the Saint Bernard

The Stephen King novel adaptation “Cujo” is the ideal fusion of camp and traditional horror.

The title dog, a beautiful Saint Bernard, turns into a danger to a little village after being bitten by a rabid bat. The rewiring of Cujo’s brain turns his bulk into a weapon even though parents of this breed are aware that their most dangerous characteristic is their perception of themselves as lap dogs.

Knowing that the four Saint Bernards who played the rabid pup were trained by famed animal trainer Karl Lewis Miller, who later trained Beethoven, is probably the best thing about this movie. “Cujo” is for you if you enjoy crazy 1980s special effects and skillful canine performance.

Frankenweenie (2012)

Dog: Sparky the Bull Terrier

“Frankenweenie,” a stop-motion masterpiece by Tim Burton, is a timeless story of a boy and his (undead) dog.

The movie centers on young Victor Frankenstein and Sparky, a Bull Terrier. Sparky is killed by a car early in the movie. He is brought back to life by clever Victor, and chaos results. Fans of “Corpse Bride” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” should definitely watch “Frankenweenie.” Perhaps the cutest stop-motion dog ever created is Sparky.

I Am Legend (2007)

Dog: Samantha the German Shepherd

In “I Am Legend,” Will Smith plays a zombie that makes you feel the saddest you’ve ever felt in your entire life. ”

After a virus infects 99 percent of people on Earth and transforms them into violent zombie-like monsters, U.S. LTC Robert Neville (Smith), an Army virologist, takes it upon himself to find a solution. He carries out his job while hiding from the “Darkseekers” in an abandoned Manhattan building with his German Shepherd, Samantha (Sam). Sam assumes the role of loyal comrade and well-behaved sidekick in typical German Shepherd fashion. You’ll cry, shout, and then cry some more.

Coco (2017)

Dog: Dante the Xoloitzcuitli

“Coco” is a beautiful story with the ability to make grown adults cry, just like many Disney films.

This Pixar movie follows a young Miguel and his dog Dante as they search for Miguel’s great-great grandfather in the Land of the Dead. Dante was formerly a stray. The film is set at the Day of the Dead, a Mexican tradition that falls on the same day as Halloween.

Dante is a Xoloitzcuintli, a historic breed connected to the celebration (often abbreviated to Xolo). The Xolo was revered as a sacred object by the Aztecs, Mayans, and Toltecs. They thought this magnificent dog could lead souls through the abyss. Dante delightfully guides Miguel and himself through the Land of the Dead in his funny, inept guide role.

Scooby-Doo (2002)

Dog: Scooby-Doo the Great Dane

Despite originally receiving mixed reviews from reviewers, this live-action Scooby-Doo quickly won over the hearts of viewers.

Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini feature as Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, and Velma, respectively, in this crazy adventure. Although the Great Dane himself is CGI, he is nonetheless quite lovable. The group solves a mystery at a resort on the fictional Spooky Island in the movie. This “Scooby-Doo” exhibit, complete with booby traps and Scooby treats, is a must-see cult classic.
