There was an animal lover named Rajkumari Dubey who rescued 70 dogs single-handedly in the oasis of Little Rann amidst the harsh sweltering summer where a lot of people often refrain from stepping out in the sun without a hint of urgency or work emergency.

Despite this circumstance, she is eager to roam the vast desert of Litte Rann to rescue the dogs for over 10 days.

The dogs serve as guards and assistants to those salt farmers who work while producing salt in Little Rann of Kutch to guard their hutments, and machinery and even an alert them for wildlife movement.

“However, these stray dogs are not spayed and they tend to multiply. Moreover, whenever the salt farmers return, they do not get the dogs back to their villages and abandon them in the Little Rann”, an annoyed Dubey explained to TOI through a call while spending her entire day rescuing dogs under the heat of the sun.

“In the peculiar dual ecosystem of the Little Rann of Kutch, once the monsoon sets in, the entire desert will be filled with neck-deep salty water wherein these dogs would not survive.

Season after season, umpteen stray dogs succumb to starvation and heat. I have been rescuing dogs over the past ten days and by now, I have run out of cages to keep them”, Dubey said, an animal lover who is from Oud village of Surendranagar district while on the outskirts of the desert.

People for Animals(PFA), an organization that works for animal welfare has taken initiatives in creating awareness among salt farmers to make sure that the dogs are safe and their lives can be saved.

In fact, to aid her persistent efforts and solitarily movements the team of rescuers from PFA is set to make a visit to little Rann.

“Over the next two days, we will visit the Little Rann of Kutch with a bigger team and resources and even cages so that we can help rescue as many dogs as possible. Once the monsoon sets in, the dogs will die if left there alone. When Dubey reached certain places, a number of dogs had already succumbed to the heat and harsh living conditions”, Mahendra Shrimali from PFA said.
