Tinsley joined the Fort Wayne Police Department on Monday.

The department will use Tinsley as a therapy dog. Officer David Tinsley, who died in the line of duty in 2018, is honored with the dog’s name.

According to FWPD Chief Steve Reed, Tinsley has already been sent out by the agency.

Oh Fort Wayne, this post is filled with so much goodness. Tinsley, the newest member of our police family, was unveiled today.

He is a 9-month-old Blue Healer who earned his degree from Brevard County, Florida’s Paws and Stripes College. These puppies, which were all rescued from a no-kill shelter using the hashtag #adoptdontshop, are being trained by Brevard County convicts.

The dogs provide the inmates with unconditional love while teaching them useful skills.

This is absolutely necessary for emotional restoration. We scoured the internet for software that made good use of the #community and found this incredible one. Each of these dogs is hand-selected for each department applying following a test.

Tinsley completed a 12-week course to become a nice lad. Officer Woods, his handler, will be working closely with the new puppy. He can’t wait to start working. By the way, Brevard County charged the department nothing for Tinsley’s services.

Their program expenses are paid for out of their commissary funds. As a member of the FWPD Peer Support Team, Tinsley, a trained therapy dog, will travel around the neighborhood and attend events. When you get to meet him, we can’t wait.

He is eager for some delicious ear scratches and is full of love. He also has a hint of mischief in him. He really enjoys the Honeycrisp apples that his human packs in her lunch bag for him, as we recently discovered.

Officer David Tinsley, who died in the line of duty on September 11, 2018, is honored under the name “#Sneaky Tinsley.”
