Most people attempt to avoid chatting with other passengers when riding the train. Unless, of course, one of those people is a delightful Cosmo, a 2-year-old Italian greyhound.

Due to their reputation as being slightly apprehensive animals, many greyhounds take a little longer to develop human attachment and confidence. Cosmo, however, actively works to disprove that perception each time his paws touch the railway station.

Cosmo was making friends incredibly quickly on a particular Tuesday afternoon while riding the London Underground subway train. Cosmo was willing to bring happiness and solace to everyone who would give him pets. He encountered a woman holding a coffee, a man in a suit, and travelers with baggage tucked by their sides and beneath their feet.

Cosmo Lane’s mother Megan Lane told The Dodo, “I love having him on the train with me because he always brightens people’s day.” He seeks friendship from everyone he encounters.

When Cosmo joyfully leaps up to a stranger, Lane said she is usually wary, especially when he jumps straight on their knees. She discovers that most people are eager to give him the affection he needs, establishing Cosmo as the official London Underground Therapy Dog.

“People always smile and ask if they can hold or stroke him,” Lane said.

Cosmo has a history of giving people affection and company when they most need it. In Lane’s situation, Cosmo turned out to be the ideal friend.

Lane stated, “I got him when I was broken-hearted and really afraid to be living alone for the first time in my life. He’s been my little companion and the nicest company. He snoozes on my legs between the covers.”

Cosmo is on a quest to brighten everyone’s day, whether he’s hugging his mother at home or kissing a new best friend he just met. He sets the bar high by consistently demonstrating that even the most reclusive commuters occasionally appreciate running into a complete stranger on the train.
