Orel Hershiser, a former Dodger pitcher, spent time with a dog who has a history of athletic accomplishments on that particular field during this year’s Pups in the Park event at Dodger Stadium.

Russell Terrier named Macho is five years old. He is a champion dock diver and a skateboarder who also likes to surf. At Dodger Stadium last autumn, Macho made an attempt to run the bases faster than anyone else in history.

“He’s just an absolutely amazing dog,” Lori Signs remarked, the owner and trainer of Macho. “We’re just huge Dodger and baseball fans and one day we thought, “Wow, wouldn’t it be incredible to have a dog run the bases?” Finding the ideal plan of action required some trial and error.

“At first we started out with treats and it didn’t work out too well for us,” said Signs. “He was stopping at each base and eating the treats.”  They made the decision to employ balloons at each base and practiced the routine for more than a year.

To assist Macho in perfecting his technique, special coaches were sent in. Orel Hershiser and Mike Scioscia, two former Dodgers who played at Dodger Stadium, shared their knowledge with the audience “When he gets out there and you see him starting to cut those bases, you’re gonna see why he’s a true champion,” Scioscia stated.

Macho arrived at Dodger Stadium last September 2021 with the goal of breaking the record in front of a Guinness World Records adjudicator. Macho raced around the bases while wearing a collar with a Dodgers theme, doing it virtually flawlessly. As Macho traveled home to learn the outcome, his trainer was overjoyed.

“Today, you attempted the Guinness World Records title for the fastest time for a dog to run the bases,” Michael Furnari, a judge for Guinness World Records, made this statement. “The minimum to beat is 24 seconds. You ran the bases in 21.06 seconds. Congratulations, Macho.”

“Macho just has a special gift. He has been the most talented dog I’ve ever worked with,” Signs remarked. “He is willing and able to do anything I want him to do and [he] tries his hardest.

During the formal plaque’s presentation at home plate, Steve Garvey and Jaime Jarrin was holding Macho. Macho’s record will be added to the many others that have been set at Dodger Stadium.
