Petting as many dogs as we can is at the top of our to-do list as National Dog Day draws near. We’re lucky, thank goodness. In order to identify which places are the greatest for dog lovers and, more significantly, dog petters, pet insurance and pet health research site Protect My Paws performed a thorough review of cities all around the world.
Did your city make the cut?
Cities with the Best Dogs
Dog density was computed by Protect My Paws using the quantity of dogs per square kilometer. Cities with higher rankings in this assessment have increased odds of encountering dogs. By comparing the number of dogs to every 100 people, they also identified the cities where dog parents are more prevalent.
At 2,857 dogs per square kilometer, Paris leads the list. With 52.1 dogs per every 100 people, Houston has the most dogs per capita. See more information in the maps below.
Protect My Paws provides a useful tool for comparing cities if you’d like to do that as well.
Why Own a Dog?
Simply put, it feels good to pet a dog. Yet why?
According to research, petting dogs releases endorphins, a hormone that lessens pain and tension. In addition, gazing into a dog’s eyes increases the production of oxytocin, a happy-making hormone, in both humans and dogs. So connecting with a dog benefits both you and the pet!
