No matter how much you love your furry companion, cleaning up after them isn’t the most pleasant of tasks. However, it’s important to always pick up after them when going for a walk as leaving their droppings in public places is not only inconsiderate but also potentially hazardous. Here are some tips on how to make the process easier:

  • Have the right equipment – The type of bag and container you should use to contain your pet’s waste depend on where you live and the local regulations. If no specific rules exist in your locality for this, then buying simple biodegradable dog waste bags should suffice. A covered container with a lid or small shovel can also come in handy for scooping up the mess!
  • Set a routine – Establishing a daily routine for picking up after your pup helps ensure that it never gets skipped or overlooked again. This way, you won’t have to worry about missing any spots as long as you stick to it faithfully!
  • Dispose properly – After bagging up their poop, make sure to close it securely before disposing of it in designated garbage cans or bins so that no one else has to deal with it. It’s also important however if living in an area without dedicated disposal locations, that you thoroughly bury the waste away from play areas, water sources, and other frequented places!
  • Reward good behavior – Like anything when training your pet; rewarding good behaviour is key. Use treats or praise as an incentive whenever they successfully do their business somewhere appropriate by following your commands and proper disposal instructions. This will help strengthen positive reinforcement so that eventually there’s very little effort needed from your end once this is mastered!
  • Be considerate – Last but certainly not least, remember that getting someone else involved (without their express permission) isn’t very polite. If you plan on having guests over or neighbours who might be affected by wandering pooches; kindly ask them beforehand if they mind looking away while you take care of business (literally!).
