Most of the 126 dogs taken in September have undergone spaying or neutering procedures at the Humane Society of Skagit Valley.

For more than 80 of the canines, adoption applications are currently being accepted.

At 10 a.m., there will be an adoption event. to 4:30 p.m. At the Humane Society on Friday and Saturday. Those who want to attend the event must submit and have their applications approved.

Candidates can specify whether they like a Maltese, Yorkie, or mixed breed.

You can submit an application at skagithumane.org/puppylove.

According to the Humane Society website, the canines eligible for adoption will have undergone their initial core vaccinations, deworming medicine, and microchipping.

A $450 nonrefundable adoption charge applies due to the substantial cost the Humane Society has incurred to properly prepare the canines for adoption. The adoption fee will become a contribution if a dog is returned.

Executive Director Janine Ceja says that for those whose applications have been accepted, the event is first-come, first-served. More than 80 applications had been submitted as of Wednesday morning.

“These creatures were subjected to abhorrent hoarding and neglect. Therefore, they could require further training, medical attention, and grooming,” Ceja stated. “We have done everything in our power to ensure their health and well-being, but there may still be long-term problems after they leave us. Due to the situation, we are unable to provide a guarantee.

The dogs were taken into custody by law enforcement on September 2 from two residences in the 4100 block of Cape Horn Drive, west of Concrete, and were then given to the Humane Society.

At the end of September, when the owner was unable to petition Skagit County District Court to reclaim possession, The Humane Society acquired ownership of the canines.

According to Emily Diaz, an animal control officer for Skagit County, the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office has concluded its investigation into the care of the dogs and has forwarded the case to the Skagit County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will decide whether to press charges.
