Four days after Christmas, a sweet pup was found tied up to a pole at the Des Moines International Airport in Iowa. When his owner Charles Bigsen was told he could not bring his pet on his flight back to Newark, New Jersey without a box, he left him there In a lot, a thousand miles from their home.

Police who spotted the dog called the local Animal Rescue League shortly after. They named the dog “Allie” and luckily, a family who spotted her, adopted her that very day.

Despite that Allie was examined and no evident signs of cruelty had been found, Bigsen will likely be charged in Iowa with animal abandonment.  As reported in the video below, dogs left at airports happen every week, all over the country,

“We get dogs tied up, left at parks and we get them constantly. You get four out, you get 10 more in.” Lindsay Papa, the shelter manager, said.

Hakim Green, a supervisor in Newark for the Associated Humane Societies, said. “You buying a dog, to give it love, care. Just to drop if off — that would be like dropping my kid off,”

This story, at least, has a happy ending.  The rescue organization, which looked after more than 10,000 animals last year, reports that the new family got in touch to let them know that Allie has been adjusting pretty well.
