The kid of his adopted family, who has also lost his hearing, has become the best friend of a six-year-old deaf dog. Walker and his mother were “inseparable” right away, and Walker “wears his hearing aids all the time now and doesn’t seem out of place.”

Walker, a deaf and autistic boy who has also lost his hearing, has found comfort in Dave, a bulldog mix who also knows sign language, thanks to their ideal match.

The local animal control agency in Michigan handed Dog Dave to the Humane Society of Midland County. Dave used to be frequently left running free and getting into contact with porcupines in his prior home before being surrendered.

When a family with a son who is deaf and has autism learned about Dave’s story and came to see him, there was an instantaneous connection, according to Brittany Schlacter from the BISSELL Pet Foundation. Dave was adopted on the final day of Empty the Shelter. At the end of July’s “Empty the Shelters” event sponsored by the BISSELL Pet Foundation, Dave was taken home by the family.

They have certainly saved each other, she said, and are now inseparable.

They looked at Dave because he was elderly and deaf after finding his image on Facebook, according to Walker’s mother, Mindy Cousineau. She told Newsweek, “It was like they had been together forever.” Dave simply laid on Walker and was really kind.

The family described how easy the move-in process was, and Dave simply walked in as if he had lived there his entire life. Although it only took the family two days to figure out all of Dave’s sign language commands, Walker has aided Dave just as much as Dave has aided Walker.

Walker has felt more at ease wearing his hearing aids at home after Dave’s arrival because of his hearing loss.

Walker is learning additional signs so he can communicate with Dave, as well as for himself, according to Cousineau. “Dave has been such a calming influence for Walker. Dave knows when Walker is becoming frustrated and he simply calms him down,” she said.

The boys are inseparable, and neither one can be out of the other’s sight. They sleep together, and honestly do everything together since we got Dave. Walker is feeling better about losing his hearing now that we have Dave, wearing his hearing aids all the time now and doesn’t feel out of place.
