Gavel, a German Shepherd puppy from Queensland, Australia, is a total flunky— a flunky that we adore! He was enrolled in an intense training course but instead of being focused on sniffing out bombs and chasing down bad guys, he preferred to lie on his back for belly rubs.

Gavel’s trainers were determined to keep him in the program but after growing out of four uniforms, he still wasn’t cut out for the job… and after 16 weeks, he was “fired.”

“He may have missed out on becoming a Queensland police service dog, but it is abundantly clear that Gavel has the characteristics necessary to adequately fulfill duties as Queensland’s official vice-regal dog,” Jersey wrote.

His official job is to welcome visitors and attend important ceremonies. Gavel even has his own contract, which he signed with his “paw print.”

While Gavel isn’t cut out for police work, he’s truly excelling in his new position. But like all of us, he has his days… LOL!

Gavel is in his glory. A former flunky is now making friends and good impressions everywhere he goes! Hey, kid, a little to the left paw-lease!
