These gorgeous puppies have found loving homes just in time for Christmas, wrapped in the arms of ecstatic owners.

And it appears that their dog-loving rescuers will take better care of the sad canines than their previous owners.

They are among hundreds of puppies who were cruelly abandoned by people once the novelty of owning a pet during the pandemic worn off.

The misery of the animals was highlighted earlier this month by the Daily Mail, with more than 170 canines arriving to one rescue center, Many Tears, near Llanelli, South Wales, in only one day.

Many of the pets have now been adopted by new families who will properly care for them.

Gibson, a 13-week-old golden retriever, is smitten by Lottie Rees, a three-year-old girl.

Gibson’s new owners are Lottie’s grandparents, Lynne and Leigh Williams of Gorslas, a Carmarthenshire village.

‘Gibson is lovely,’ the small girl added. I like cuddling him.’

‘He’s the first dog we’ve ever owned,’ Mrs Williams, 59, said. His mother was an unwanted breeding dog, and we felt we just had to help’

Charlie, Gibson’s sister, also found a home with the Lewis family in neighboring Llangennech – a Christmas present for Rebecca, 15.

She said: ‘Charlie’s the best Christmas present. She’s already started puppy classes.’

Travis, a 16-week-old collie, was one of numerous rescued puppies shown in the arms of Many Tears CEO Sylvia Van Atta.

Marian and Tim Preece, a retired couple from Northwich, Cheshire, have adopted Travis.

‘When we read about Travis being from an abandoned litter, we made up our minds to  give him a home,’ Mrs Preece, 66, added.

One hundred and twenty of the 172 rescued pets have now found new homes.

‘We really want to thank people for their kindness,’ said Mrs Van Atta, 62, who runs the charity with her husband Bill. It’s an impressive effort.’
