The Brousseau family had adopted their dog, Duke, from a shelter in Portland, Connecticut. Duke was miserable from living in the shelter, but he gradually blossomed into a perfect companion for the family. Six years later, Duke expressed his gratitude to the Brousseaus in the most endearing manner!

The family had recently welcomed their baby girl, Harper, and Duke had immediately become very protective of his little sister. One night, the family was sleeping peacefully when Duke suddenly raced to his parent’s room and jumped on their bed. He was shaking uncontrollably and would refuse every command given to him. Finally, Mom read the panic on his face and asked him what was wrong.

Duke led his parents to the 9-week-old Harper’s room and anxiously pointed toward the baby – who wasn’t breathing at all. The family rushed their toddler to the ER, and the doctors were able to save Harper’s life in the nick of time! Duke finally calmed down when he ensured that his sister was breathing well and doing alright!

The family shudders at the thought of what could have happened if Duke hadn’t alerted them on time.
