He was previously the victim of horrible torture and violence, but today he is helping his rescuers save lives. Buddy, a 10-year-old rescue dog, was in bad shape after his cruel owners shot him with a gun and chopped off his tail with a kitchen knife.

Although Chief Inspector Jayne Forrest of South Yorkshire Police did everything she could to assist nurse Buddy back to full health, RSPCA inspectors didn’t think they could salvage Buddy’s body from the air rifle wounds and flea infestation. He now spends his days cheering up the officers and employees.

After serving seven years in prison, the courageous pup has moved on to a new assignment as a South Yorkshire Police well-being dog, aiding officers in coping with stress and trauma.

A police force official stated: “Before the pit bulls were forced to fight, Buddy was used to riling them up.

“Buddy was covered in worms, fleas, and ticks, and had had his tail amputated with a kitchen knife when police discovered him.

The RSPCA didn’t think they could save him because he had been shot with an air weapon so many times, but Jayne was convinced she could.

The spokesperson continued, “Buddy had brought a soothing influence to the squad, although he was still a little “nervous” around other canines.

It was said: “Our wellbeing dogs are sent to any teams that have experienced stress, trauma, or danger in the hopes that they may offer some temporary solace and much-needed distraction.

“Although Buddy still exhibits some understandable apprehension around the other members of the Wellbeing Dog team, he is a delightful, calming presence.
