Lilo, a lovely German Shepherd mix, was discovered walking the streets of Chattanooga, Tennessee, with a letter asking for someone to take care of her. Lilo was taken into the shelter by a kind stranger, and what happened next was not very remarkable.

The incident was reported by McKamey Animal Center on their Facebook page. You might want to get your Kleenex ready, just in case. This story is unequivocal evidence of the good in the world.

Part of the post reads, “While we can’t share a lot of the details with you yet, we are actively working with the family to set them up with a safe haven, shelter, and resources to stay together and tackle homelessness.”

The comments on this story are as wonderful as the story itself. “This is amazing!!! Now everyone go to your local shelter and follow through with your foster and adoption offers!! There are thousands of dogs just like Lilo waiting for a family of their own! be the change you want to see in the world!,” says Erin Nelsen. “As someone who works with an unsheltered community, thank you. Thank you for not judging her initially and thank you for helping and just thank you.I will do anything to keep our unsheltered folks and their pets together. Their pets literally give them a reason to stay alive,” adds Paige Berhow.

The first post that describes Lilo’s journey to the shelter may be seen here.

This notice was published on the animal shelter’s Facebook page.

“We want you to know she is safe, and we will take the very best care of her. She will be loved by our staff and volunteers, we will keep her name, and we promise you we will do our best to find her a wonderful new home. But if you are reading this, we hope you will come forward to reclaim her. We will help you with whatever you need to care for her, to the best of our ability. Lilo definitely misses you, and we would like nothing more than to see her go back to the family she loves. Either way, please know that we understand, we will not judge, and we are here to help in any way we can.”

What a heartwarming tale, and what a heartwarming outcome for this dog and her family.
