Unexpectedly, a Virginia family intending to adopt a new dog last week discovered their lost dog at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

According to the shelter, the family had been hunting for a new dog to join their family for some time. The family looked through the adoption kennels at the animal center, but no particular puppy struck their attention.

The shelter posted on Facebook, “As the family was leaving, one of the kids noticed the pictures of the additional available dogs, one of which looked very similar to their last pup.”

The family realized the dog, who seemed familiar, was actually their missing pet. Solider, their dog, who is actually Dante, vanished in another county. The family had looked everywhere but didn’t believe he could have gotten it this far.

Dante was ecstatic to see his family again. He was observed rushing from person to person whining, hopping, and wagging his tail.

“Yes, they were real and they were here to take him HOME again!!! It’s clear that Dante is a very loved member of the family,” the shelter said in the post.

The animal shelter was happy to see everything worked out for the best.

“Maybe this was the universe not letting them feel a connection with any other dog, because Dante was still waiting for them.”
