Petey was discovered by a Good Samaritan while he was hiding under a tree. The terrified dog was in a peaceful place with few other people around.

To track down the dog’s owners, the woman shared a picture of the dog on social media taken from a distance not to scare him. But instead of looking for his parents, the woman found someone to assist in saving him.

Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy rescue, was struck by Petey’s diminutive size when she first saw photographs of him lying beneath a huge tree.

She then quickly began running to save him after realizing how many coyotes there were in the neighborhood.

“When I got there, he was sitting under the tree and looking out at the road,” according to Hall. “It seemed like he was looking for his person.”

Hall attempted to approach the dog, but he swiftly retreated to an area of the field that was unreachable. Then, as the sun began to drop, Hall’s worst worries came true.

“I could see the glowing eyes of coyotes in the field,” claimed Hall. “They were everywhere.”

Time was of the essence, and Hall had to act quickly. She placed two traps on opposite ends of the field, then looked for a place to hide so she could watch the dog covertly.

The dog soon began to circle the traps to find the rewards inside and entered after a short while and was at last secure.

“I was so happy when I heard my trap shut,” Hall remarked. “If he had gone back out again, who knows what would’ve happened? ”

Hall fed the dog after he was in the trap and then placed him in her van. He quickly devoured the kibble and then curled up for a snooze.

It was now too late to visit the veterinarian, so Hall chose to spend the night in her van with the dog she named Petey until the facility reopened in the morning. She was surprised by how quickly Petey warmed up to her although she knew he was lonely.

“We slept in my car together that night, and he was so cuddly,” Hall said. “He was a total lovebug.”

Petey had to fend for himself outside, but fortunately, he was in excellent health when Hall retrieved him. He merely required a full bath and a round of vaccinations when he arrived at the veterinary facility. Then, prepared to go into foster care.

As long as he remains in foster care, Petey will continue to enjoy cuddling with his foster mother and his new foster canine siblings. He still needs a forever home, but his present carer is head over heels in love with him.

“His foster mom says that he’s such a doll,” Hall said. “And he totally loves her, too.”
