Stacy Batson, who works in Quincy, Florida, took her normal route home from work; she had no idea that her day would conclude with a rescue. She responded to Batson’s call and stopped when a little dog darted out of the roadside vegetation and pursued his vehicle.
The weak and hungry dog introduced Batson to a unique person who also required assistance: his sibling.
The brown and white puppy was not completely confident in Batson yet.
“He leaned on the other for confidence, it seemed,” Batson said. “But both had very sweet natures about them.”
“They were starving, so I shared my lunch that I didn’t eat with the two of them,” Batson said. “It completely broke my heart.”
The siblings felt secure enough to sniff Batson’s hand after they ate some of his leftovers. She does not know how long they managed to survive there, but she knew she had to do something to prevent them from starving and being alone.

She claims that her uncle Silas is the true hero in spite of Batson’s first call to arms.
“He picked them up and took them to a rescue,” Batson said. “I wanted to make sure they were safe and taken care of.”
Thanks to Rescue Paws Pet Refuge Inc., the shelter took it in.
After receiving the veterinarian’s all-clear, Burger and Sketti will be placed in their forever home together in a foster home. And even though Batson was not involved in their care in any direct way after making her initial discovery, she frequently checks in on them on social media to see how they have fared since their rescue.

The puppies were first wary of being touched by humans, but now they usually play or give kisses.
“The pups have been doing well,” according to Batson. “It thrills me that such a small gesture of kindness has reached and touched so many.”
