Lucy, a chocolate lab mix, enjoyed being the only “kid” until the twin daughters of Joshua and Kelly Rheaume, Lily and Lennon, were born on November 11, 2022.
When we brought them home, she was ferociously envious, claims Joshua, 32, of Capreol, Ontario, Canada. The finest moment for us came when we noticed Lucy was good with the girls after three or four days, but we also recognized that she liked helping.
Joshua posted adorable videos of Lucy, age 6, getting diapers and cuddling the babies on TikTok (@uhohtwins), and they quickly racked up millions of likes.
“When we saw that helping [the babies] helped Lucy, I felt like I was reaching out to dog owners to show it’s important to include their pets,” says Joshua.
Since she was adopted by the Rheaumes when she was just 6 months old, Lucy has played a significant role in the family’s lives. She served as the flower girl at their wedding, and according to Joshua, “if she can’t be involved anywhere, we don’t go.”
She is currently also the center of the babies’ universe.
“I’m lucky to get a smile from the girls,” says Joshua, “but I’ve taken a couple of cute photos where it looks like they’re petting Lucy. “They’re still too young to interact, but they love to look at her.”
