Gretchen Evans, a CSM, attained the top enlisted rank in the United States. NAMPA, Boise. Army in an era when there weren’t many women in charge of overseeing 30,000 soldiers, but after 27 years, an Afghan rocket explosion put a stop to her career.
The hardest injury for Evans to deal with after 46 years of the hearing was becoming deaf. “I came back with injuries that were hard to traverse,” said Evans. I literally went from being able to hear in a moment.
At the Warhawk Air Museum, Gretchen and her service dog Rusty spoke to a group of veterans. The Command Sergeant Major described how Rusty alerts Gretchen to sounds around her, increases her sense of security, and provides advice for her independence.
According to American Gary Leonhardt, it was “amazing.” military veteran. “Gretchen’s tale demonstrated the necessity of training these animals to assist the veterans since in her instance, it saved her life,” said the author.
Through Dogtopia, a dog boarding company that helps raise money to provide veterans service dogs, Gretchen Evans is touring the nation giving speeches to spread awareness for the Dogs Save Lives Campaign.
One of the best dog daycare and boarding facilities in the US is Dogtopia, according to Evans.
Dogtopia, a nationwide company that focuses on three pillars in addition to caring for dogs, recently launched its first location in Boise and has plans to bring three more to the Treasure Valley.
According to Dale Goff of Dogtopia, “we generate money to sponsor service dogs, we also raise money to do programs for young reading, and then we have jobs for persons with autism.” We have two younger children we adopted from Russia who are on the spectrum; they are engaged, and we love having them here. That is one of the ones that is close to my heart.
The Dogs Save Lives program, which accepts donations and shirt sales through Veterans Day, benefits veterans like Gretchen Evans, whose life was significantly transformed when she adopted Rusty.
In the military, we are accustomed to having a battle buddy—the person who has your six—so Evens called it “miraculous.” We miss it when we leave the service, and despite all that Rusty does for me, I believe that simply having him around gives me a sense of security.
