In a perfect world, no dog would be kept in a shelter or wandering in the streets, but that’s just not how it is. That’s why the folks who work at shelters and Humane Societies are such a vital resource for animals. Not only do they respond to calls to keep people safe from wildlife, but they go above and beyond to keep animals safe, too.

Fresno Humane Animal Services officer @acoalcorn12 recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at the reality of her job and the “aggressive dog” calls that she gets. Some of the claims people make couldn’t be further from the truth!

OMG–look at all these ‘aggressive’ dogs! They couldn’t be any sweeter if they tried. Whether they were fearful and gentle or ecstatic and wiggly, every pup in this video looked relieved to be rescued.

“I wish more ppl understood the difference between aggressive and scared. Most strays are just scared,” explained commenter @destanysteagall44. You’re so right! Many dogs show fear through ‘aggressive’ actions like growling and nipping, which is their way of trying to defend themselves. If this fact was more widely known, maybe not so many dogs would be labeled as aggressive.

We got a good chuckle from @radarsdad1’s comment that said, “thank goodness you made it out of there safely.” @Acoalcorn12 replied, “honestly blessed that we are still alive,” alongside a laughing emoji. Clearly, these misunderstood pups provided no danger whatsoever! Still, there will always be people out there who see a stressed-out dog and fear the worst. Hopefully, videos like these can start to reassure them!
