“Deaf has its distinct advantages today!” Sounds the frequent voiceover from TikTok user @Deafcole on the page assembled by his owner, a music instructor from South Jersey with an obvious sense of humor about his therapy dog, Cole.
He adopted Cole — who only has one eye — from a shelter and he often touchingly communicates with him through sign language. Among the clips featured — including this one of Cole as the “lucky” unhearing star of children’s holiday shows — point out the mutt’s advantage of being deaf. For example: not alarmed by take-off or landing, he sleeps soundly on planes. Besides not being bothered by large groups of cackling out-of-tune children, Cole can’t hear Michael Bolton sing. LOL! This is why Cole’s dad describes his deafness as a “superpower.”

It’s clearly all about perspective. Not only has this owner championed his pet but he’s advocated for other deaf dogs who might be up for adoption by highlighting the positive and making us laugh in the process.
