A dog that was nicknamed Ghost after he was discovered running with a pack of coyotes in the Nevada desert has been reunited with his family. The only issue is that a rescue who had been caring for Ghost and raising money for the multiple surgeries he will require doesn’t want to give the dog back.

People are conflicted about who this dog should actually belong with, and this case is getting pretty complicated despite the dog being happy to be reunited with his original owners.

USA Today reports, “Hades the 4-year-old bull terrier mix is back with the Cabada family of Las Vegas, according to the Animal Foundation, a nonprofit shelter that been caring for the pup since a dispute over him led to police involvement.” The issue in this case is that Carole Sandy, a board member with Amor Peludo Animal Rescue, doesn’t want to give the dog up. “We’re not going to give up,” she continued. “We’re going to pursue this by any legal means possible.”

Sandy said his medical care would cost thousands, and a GoFundMe page raised more than $14,000 to pay for it. When Ghost’s story was on TV the Cabada family recognized him as their dog Hades and went to the trapper’s house who originally rescued the dog and were caring for him. After a dispute regarding ownership police arrived, officers determined that no crimes had occurred but could not decide who rightfully owned the dog, said Officer Luis Vidal, a spokesman with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Ghost/Hades stayed at Clark County Animal Protection for nine days while the foundation then decided to turn him over to the Cabada family.

People on Twitter are divided on who the dog belongs to. @Christy2371 comments, “Look at those kids faces! Stop the battle. The dog is home where he belongs.” @Wangu_M-Mackeri disagrees and says, “These people abandoned their dog they shouldn’t be given this dog. He needs to be with a better owner. They want ghost back but they didn’t say anything about all the surgeries he needs to be healthy again!” @RobertRickard replies, “I think the tail wag confirms it.”
