Not every adopted shelter dog receives a red carpet welcome. But for Bowie the shepherd-mix, who had spent more than a year looking for his forever family, it was the most appropriate send-off his pals at Whatcom Humane Society (WHS) could imagine.

From his first day, Bowie swiftly won over the hearts of every single employee and volunteer who worked at the rescue, becoming a star among staff members.

According to development associate Andrea Merrill of the Whatcom Humane Society, “he was really, really lovely.”

The employees at the shelter took good care of Bowie for about a year and a half. Volunteers would take him on treks to have some time away from the shelter in addition to interacting with him while he was at the rescue.

He’s one of those dogs who just need the support of his entire village, Merrill added. That is the reason [the adoptions] kept failing,

Bowie got several adoption applications at that time, but none were a good fit for him.

He obviously required someone who was ready to accept the fact that he is a wonderful dog who is still developing his manners, according to Merrill.

Bowie returned immediately to the shelter after each failed adoption. His pals at the humane society welcomed him back with wide arms despite their confusion about why he hadn’t been adopted yet.

A nearby college student discovered Bowie’s tale on social media about a year into his time at WHS and began following along.

Merrill stated, “She was completely in love with him, but it wasn’t the proper moment.

The woman graduated from college and got her first job six months later. When she returned to WHS and discovered that Bowie was still up for adoption, she submitted an application right away.

It’s a situation where “the right person found the right dog,” according to Merrill. And everyone at Whatcom was eagerly anticipating Bowie’s beginning of this new chapter.

The humane society’s employees didn’t think a red carpet sendoff was normal, but they felt it was appropriate for their very own four-legged celebrity. Additionally, he had a ton of pals who wanted to bid him farewell one final time.

Just for Bowie, WHS employees unrolled a lengthy red carpet from the kennels to the door. To bid their close friend a final farewell, they lined up around the carpet with signs created especially for him.

Everyone was in tears, but Merrill insisted that they were glad tears of excitement for him. We were able to say farewell to Bowie in a really sweet way, says the author.

Bowie left the shelter on the red carpet and immediately went to his permanent residence.

When Bowie isn’t participating in training sessions or going on hikes, he may be seen cuddling with his mother, who grows to love him more and more every day.

Merrill remarked, “She just completely adores him. And Bowie is ecstatic.
