Having a new pet in the family is special. How much more if the dog literally traveled across the world — from India to Canada — to arrive in its forever home. A video of the couple meeting their four-legged family member is melting hearts online.

In India, people keep on buying foreign breeds of dogs. However, this couple decides to adopt an Indian pariah stray rescued from the streets. After several months of eagerly waiting and tons of paperwork, Havilah Heger Wiley and her husband Stephen finally got to meet the canine.

In an Instagram video, the young couple documented their day right from going to the airport to picking up the dog whom they have named Indy. The video shows the pooch gently approaching the couple coming out of the carrier and sniffing its new family members.

“A little shy at first, but didn’t take long to bond. Welcome home Indy,” the couple wrote in the caption. The dog was adopted through the Dharamsala Animal Rescue in India.

“She is gentle, sweet, goofy, and FULL of energy,” writes Havilah in another post.

Indy was hit by a vehicle as a puppy in which a leg and its tail were injured. “Her tail never recovered and had to get amputated so now she has the cutest little stub tail,” says Havilah.

Indy’s situation didn’t deter the couple from adopting her. “We are SO obsessed and wildly in love,” the woman claimed.

Now, Indy gets to go on treks with her new family, plays in the snow, has made new friends in the neighborhood, and experiences new adventures every now and then!
