When Riverside County Animal Rescue (Palm Springs/Palm Desert), California got the call that a puppy was stuck in a tire, they had no idea what to expect.

The three-year-old Australian Cattle Dog somehow found his way into the middle, where the hubcap would normally be placed.   Rescuers attempted initially to oil the dog’s neck — now inflamed —to navigate him through. But this only scared the puppy who began to bite.

As seen in this video, the entire tire — pup included — was transported to Coachella Valley Animal Campus. The dog was sedated and a saw-like instrument called a Sawzall was used to remove a portion of the tire, to carve him out.

Once examined by veterinarians, the dog’s family was notified and on their way to reunite with their little adventurer, now eating, drinking, and playing with the heroes who had saved him.
