Anthony Triplett Jr., an Army veteran, will spend more than 20 hours a week policing the sidewalks in front of his daughters’ schools.

After being medically discharged from the Army in 2018, Triplett made the decision he wanted to assist.

Although what he is doing is entirely legal, Thurston County’s sheriff isn’t so sure, and the district claims to have had a few parent complaints.

Jude, Triplett’s assistance dog, follows him as he monitors the schools.

Before being medically compelled to retire from the Army due to a leg ailment, he served two combat deployments in Afghanistan. His two children considered him to have been called back to service following the Uvalde school shooting in May.

What are they doing to keep us safe, my kids and other kids were asking me. Triplett uttered, ”

Triplett emphasized too little.

Although he hasn’t had to act, he said he’s prepared in case something does.

“I’m going in,” he said, “if I were to hear an explosion or gunfire, or something like that, see a mass of people running out, say they said someone was firing.”

Although everything Triplett does is lawful, the sheriff of Thurston County would prefer that Triplett leave security to the experts.

The actions of Triplett, according to state senator Patty Kuderer, “are a scathing indication of where we are as a culture.” She added she empathizes with Triplett.

Triplett asked, “What’s the better thing we can do right now to keep our kids safe?”

Although Triplett acknowledged that what he is doing might make some people uneasy, he claimed to be making schools safer.

“We expose our children to risk. I don’t feel right about it,” he declared. “It’s not like the schools aren’t making enough of an effort. I want teachers to be able to instruct.
