If there’s one thing we love more than shelter dogs, it’s people who find it in their hearts to adopt senior shelter dogs. It’s heartbreaking to think of any dog needing a home, but to think about a dog nearing the end of its life with no one to cherish and love them is almost unbearable.

That’s why it’s so important that we have people like @Jennanfifi , who open their hearts and homes to dogs who may otherwise never get a chance to have the love and care of a family again. The following video will restore your faith in people and show you what the healing power of love means to older dogs.

How dear is the caption that reads, “When both your dogs turn 18 years old and you spend nearly every weekend just hanging out with them. No regrets.” So many of the commenters on the video are also owners of senior dogs, with @BartOconnel posting, “We adopted two 14-year-old dogs as well, and it’s the best thing we ever did, they made such a difference. I wish you and them a long happy life.”

We never know how long we get to spend with our beloved animal companions, and that is never more true when that companion is a senior dog. It’s so beautiful to see people who adopt these animals and save them from what little time they have left in shelters. To all of you who bring an elderly dog into your life, just wanting to make those last days special for them, you truly are angels on earth.

Here’s to beautiful Jack and Maisie and all the other older dogs out there. May the rest of your days be filled with long walks and endless belly rubs.
