A woman has prepared her Bernese mountain dog for any potential Christmas commotion brought on by the arrival of her younger relatives.

In a popular video, Katlin Pardy, 28, who goes by the handle @thegirlwithallthedoggos, is shown grooming her dog Zoey and getting ready for Christmas with her nieces and nephews. The message that appears on screen reads: “Preparing my dog for Christmas with my nieces and nephews.”

In an interview with Newsweek, Canadian paramedic Pardy said she made the film to help Zoey, 5, become less sensitive.

The video has racked up over 306,000 likes and has been watched 1.3 million times.

Pardy told Newsweek: “I will be spending Christmas at my boyfriend’s parent’s house and there will be a fair amount of kids.

“My boyfriend has a bunch of nieces and nephews. They range from 12 weeks old to 5 years old. Zoey has always been great with kids, but to make sure she was bulletproof we did a little extra training on top of what we normally do for desensitization.

“In addition to this, Zoey will have lots of space come Christmas and I will be closely watching to make sure no accidents happen, with lots of treats on hand of course!”

Over 3,300 people have commented on the video since it was posted on December 3.

“Some people have asked why we posted the videos if the behavior in the training wouldn’t actually be allowed, but I felt it was a great reminder to everyone that Christmas is a stressful time for everyone, including your animals,” Pardy said.

“And that preparation and desensitization are great ways to learn boundaries and avoid accidents. Both people and pets should be prepped and trained.

“Zoey will be respected and given space, but she loves family and this is a great way to ensure she can be included and safe.”
